Celluloid was originally created from nitrocellulose and camphor with added dyes and other agents. This produce was registered in 1870, also known as French Ivory, due to its natural colour. However, it is to be noted that this material has no relationship to animal ivory.
Celluloid pieces are often decorated with tiny crystals, hand painted and hand carved. As these pieces have aged and have been well worn over time, missing stones and some discolouration may occur. This, therefore, will alter the pricing of the pieces, however, in the case of these particular pieces, the charm is often in the worn patina as is evident in most vintage jewellery pieces.
*Important to note
Vintage celluloid jewellery is highly flammable
